The Netherlands is home to over 850,000 ambitious amateur cyclists. Cycling isn’t just about pushing harder and faster, but also about preparing yourself for a Gran Fondo or ticking that mountain climb off your bucket list. We’ve created this app together with the Royal Dutch Cycling Federation (KNWU), in order to train more efficiently and achieve your top performance faster.

Personalised training options are essential
Whether you want to climb better, sprint faster, or tackle that cyclo event, training plans from professional KNWU coaches help you reach your personal goal. These plans are based on your perceived exertion, heart rate or power output, offering each cyclist a matching, simple way to train effectively towards their goal. Our design and development balanced personalized plans, individual training sessions, and expert KNWU knowledge in one cohesive app experience.
How does it work? Choose a goal in the app and specify how many days you want to train. Since no one is the same, Fondo adapts your training based on perceived exertion, heart rate and power zones. While the app is smart, it doesn’t know everything—so you can chat directly with your coach if you have questions.
This app isn’t just a tool for teaching amateurs the ropes. It embodies KNWU’s vision for the future, keeping them relevant to cyclists who aren’t part of a club but are serious about their sport. It ensures a future where KNWU is relevant for cyclists on every level and introduces a new business model for the KNWU. Helping the KNWU to transform this vision into a digital product was a great opportunity which lead to a strong bond with the KNWU.
Creating Fondo was an ambitious—and sometimes bumpy—ride. Both our minds and the servers were put to the test. One startup strategist, two designers, six developers, and countless meetings later, we crossed the finish line! Within 72 hours of the beta launch, we had 500 new accounts and were welcomed by the cycling community. Curious? The user base is still growing and Fondo is a clear success for the KNWU. Check it out on the App and Play stores.
Fondo has proven to be a hit within the ever-growing cycling community. This is mainly due to the optimal combination of the expertises of both TodayTomorrow and the KNWU. Fondo is still smashing records, even though our roadmap shows that the best is yet to come!
