Empowering healthy breathing habits for stress relief

GlimpGlimp
Glimp

Glimp's beautiful, smart hand stones (pebbles) help people focus on their breathing through vibrations. We assisted them in making the digital experience just as stress-relieving as the product itself. We created a companion app with clear instructions and a calming interface that allows users to catch their breath.

What we learned from the users

People working on their breathing

It takes an average of 66 days to establish a new routine. Give people insight in their progress is key

80% of humans breathe too fast, leading to unnecessary stress

The level of experience in breathing techniques varies greatly and requires variable options

Finding the right tone is challenging. Glimp takes a scientific stance in a domain that is mostly considered 'floaty’

Breathing life into the essentials

In close collaboration with the Glimp product team, we explored the features to determine which ones were essential and which were missing. Through an agile user journey process, we identified the core functionalities needed for the best experience. Making the app accessible for inexperienced breathers, without alienating seasoned users, was a key challenge. Working towards a low tech prototype to validate the concept first.

Designed to close your eyes

Our design approach was to create an interface that stays as unobtrusive as possible, allowing you to close your eyes and focus on your breathing. This led to a humble, minimalist aesthetic, focused on the essentials and eliminating any friction. Using fabrics to visualize air movement adds a lighthearted feel to the interface while keeping the screen dim. When you open your eyes, we aim to minimize distractions, ensuring your sense of calm remains undisturbed.

Visualising breath and bio data

In the app, we visualized biometric data in a clear, intuitive way to help users understand their breathing patterns. The breathing cycle—inhale, hold, exhale, hold—is represented through a dynamic, flowing graphic that mirrors the rhythm of the user's breath. For those who want deeper insights, we layered the visuals with factual biometric data, such as heart rate variables and stress scale, offering an evidence-based approach. This combination ensures that the app remains both accessible and informative, empowering users to improve their breathing with practical, data-driven support.

Connected in one breath

Working together with the tech lead of Glimp, we introduced Flutter as a programming framework. Flutter allowed us to build apps for both iOS and Android using a single codebase, saving time and reducing development costs. Next to this, Flutter provides performance and a feeling that is nearly indistinguishable from native apps. Connecting to the pebbles by bluetooth works fluently.

Word from the client

TodayTomorrow's design isn't just beautiful, the whole UX/UI is tailored to our users' needs. Within just one identity-session, they were able to understand our user group and helped us establish a design system for our brand identity. A swift and high-quality turnaround! -
